The Jerry Thomas Project – the Whiskey Fix

by Columbine Quillen on February 22, 2010

The Jerry Thomas Project is the re-creation of all of Jerry Thomas’ cocktails from Jerry Thomas’ Bar-Tenders Guide: Receipts for Mixing in their purest form. Jerry Thomas is considered America’s father of mixology publishing the first cocktail book in 1862.

I want to apologize for making the Brandy Fix, the Gin Fix, and the Santa Cruz Fix and not adding the Whiskey Fix to that post.  I didn’t even glance at the next page of Jerry Thomas’ book – whoops.  Anyhow – the Whiskey Fix.

The Whiskey Fix

1 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice

1 ounce simple syrup (or 2 teaspoons of sugar)

2 ounces of bourbon or whiskey

Shake vigorously and strain.  Thomas recommends serving it with an orange and a pineapple.

I would consider this the most delicious of the fixes and it is almost the same as one of my favorite Thomas’ drinks – the Whiskey Daisy.  Except he is using sugar instead of orgeat syrup.
